Chapter 1 from "Medic Guild Mania!"

-A day in the life of a Lea

The sun was beginning its rest and the sky began to darken when the alarm went off…again. This was the third time today and it was now far beyond simply being annoying. This had become downright irritating, grinding on the staffs last nerves. Another patient went critical in the evening with no consideration at all.   Lea bolted upright and immediately ran to the patient's room. It was calm by the time she got there, Luna had handled it. Lea liked her; she actually got work done without the annoying talking. The patient was of course Aqoss the vaporeon.   Lea knew him well…he was Stratos' brother. He was attacked by a Garados on Shatter-glass cliff. He lost half of his fin in the attack and Lea doubted he would ever swim correctly again, a little sad but it was not the first time she witnessed something sad. He had regular pain attacks since the tragedy; this causes him to be sent to the ER often. Lea had been to his room three times today and it was nothing more than the pain increasing his heart rate, but if she didn't go running and he died she might feel a little guilty.

Unfortunately, Lea the Leafeon had become a little hardened after becoming the Medic guild leader. Maybe it was the tragedies but Lea doubted it. It wasn't through lack of attention. She was a very pretty Leafeon sporting her trademark red and orange scarf that dragged under her feet but the workload had taken its toll on her. She wasn't groomed at all and she had two dark circles forming under her eyes. Lea wanted to sleep desperately…but she had to monitor Aqoss for a little while longer. That was becoming her life. She had been awake for thirty-six hours straight with only a couple hours sleep before her shift started. The days blend together now so she forgets the time and date quite often. She knew people were busy today, everyone seemed to be preparing for something but Lea couldn't remember what it was and if it was something she needed to see. Not that it mattered; she would be needed here, at the guild.

The paperwork tomorrow was going to kill her she thought. She had to constantly check on the injured pokémon that came from all over the island and then file the paperwork about their treatment for later reference. Her guild ran the only hospital on the island and it was attached to the Rescue and Explorers guilds. The guild was built underground and Lea's hospital was at the northern most part of the structure. It was the best lit for it was built into the surrounding hill. The patients seemed to enjoy the sunlight and Lea didn't mind it either. What Lea did mind was the staffing issue. There weren't enough doctors for the amount of patients.

Lea began the guild nine years ago and only has five members including her. The members included: a   Kirlia named Luna, a   Diftloon named Hope, an   Audino named Sara, a Cherrim named Sol, and herself Lea the Leafeon. It took years to train a competent doctor but they had just accepted some new interns. The members of the explorers and rescuers guild were constant patients for Lea's guild. That is the sole reason the guild was added, but there are far more patients then competent healers. Lea disliked Sara and Sol. They were incompetent morons who refused to learn. Hope couldn't heal, but he was helpful. He brought everything required and was quick about it. Hope was also good at carrying the paperwork to the library. Lea had actually found herself wishing Hope would evolve so he could carry more. Luna was a prodigy. She also worked hard and was respectful. Yes, Lea was proud of that girl. She shook her head trying to physically clear the thoughts out. She needed sleep…and a lot of it. Lea turned and went slowly back to her room. She lifted herself into the makeshift bed; she began sleeping at the guild after the work load began increasing, and she finally closed her eyes. The immediate relief of shutting her eyes was the most pleasure Lea had felt in a very long time. As her mind finally stopped and her conscious danced close to sleep the alarm went off again… using what little energy she had left to stifled a scream and she ran to the patient's room.

Chapter 2 of "Medic Guild Mania"

-The Sleepy Surgeon

After a long night of work Lea had finally gotten some sleep (Two hours to be exact). It felt as though she had just lain down when Hope quietly floated into her office to wake her up.  He honestly considered just letting her sleep and having Luna make her rounds but Lea would have his medical license and his non-existent ass if he let her sleep through her patient rounds and scheduled surgery.

"Good morning Lea." The Leafeon didn't even stir. He tried again with a more robust yell. "HEY, GOOD MORNING LEA." She still didn't move or stir an inch. Hope actually considered that she had died but before he could note the time of death she muttered into her makeshift bed.

"I heard you the first time. You don't need to be so freaking loud all the time."

"My apologies Lea. Would you like to review today's schedule?" Lea finally turned over and sat in a very…unladylike position. Hope, who even though was technically dead, was caught off guard by Lea's lack of manners. If he still had the ability to blush he would have been doing so.

"Yeah…go ahead and spit it out. Not like ignoring the schedule will make it disappear." As she spoke she stood up and began walking to the first part of the daily schedule (The part that never really changed) Hope talking the entire time.

"First you have to address the residents and the interns. Then give them their assigned duties for the day." Lea just gave Hope the "No Shit" look that was practically patented by her. Lea had become so tired that talking took a lot out of her, so she developed a vast emotional range to display instead. Hope simply made a small note of the look and continued on with the schedule. "Secondly you have to visit patients: Aqoss, Jova, and Penelo(She continued on but Lea asked for the list instead). You'll have to fill out discharge papers for Aqoss as well. Thirdly you have a minor surgery scheduled. The briefings will be held after lunch. After the surgery the secondary address to the staff with the afternoon duties starts. Another patient check, your clinic hours with new patients, and finally the paperwork." Lea started to look woozy just from hearing the vast amount of work she needed to complete today. Hope had never seen her this tired before. She seemed off today, every step she took seemed forced. "Also the Theater's play is today and Iya has sent you tickets for the balcony seats again. The expensive one's that she reserves for you every time." Hope had desperately tried to hammer in how important that play was for Iya's sake but Lea had already left.

Chapter 3 of "Medic Guild Mania"

-Stardust Theater

The crowds, the smells, the sights, and the roar of applause, these were everything you expected when going to Iya's Stardust Theater, and Iya loved it all. She was a glamorous   glaceon and drama queen at heart and she never tried to deny that. It was her love of acting that led to the creation of The Stardust Theater. The theater was very large and always decorated to match the setting of the next big performance. At the moment it looked like an ancient castle with ivy growing up the brick walls. It was right next to the library and only a stone's throw from the general market. It had taken a full year to build when she was only eleven years old, but it was worth it in Iya's eyes. The Stardust Theater was Iya's crowning achievement in life, but it wasn't the one she so desperately wanted. Iya was a very attractive glaceon. She was always well groomed and carried two powder blue hair clips on each of her ears. She was the envy of women and every man wished to date her. The only problem with that is she didn't particularly like men. Maybe they wronged her to many times or maybe they just bored her now but whatever the reason she found herself attracted to only one person in the village. That was Lea the leader of the island's Medic Guild.

She desperately wanted companionship, but the only person she was attracted to ignored her entire existence. That's why she began developing this habit of pretending to be hurt. It drove Lea nuts and always provided a laugh. Iya knew Lea would never let a hurt pokémon suffer so the trick worked every time without the "Trainer who cried Mightyena" effect to worry about. Lea…she didn't know why but she really liked her…but Lea was so addicted to her job that she never spent too much time alone with her. Iya was equally busy but only before a show, meaning she had a great deal of free time to ponder and feel sorry for herself.

Tonight was a very important show though. Almost everyone on the entire island was going to be there, the village elder and all the guild leaders including Lea. Iya's heart skipped a beat just thinking about her. She didn't know what about her made her feel this way but she also didn't care. All she knew is that being close to Lea made her happy.

Lost in her thoughts she pricked her finger with the needle she was using. The pain was a sharp reminder to focus on the task at hand and to stop her daydreaming. Iya began to sew again when a loud thumping noise barreled down the steps. It was Lyra the espeon and one of Iya's favorite Actors. The other actors were good, but Lyra was great. She was a fantastic actor but best of all she could sing beautifully. Lyra was adorable, and Iya regretted the short relationship she started with her. It was something Lyra didn't acknowledge and she states that she had gotten over it but it didn't make Iya feel any better. She was only seventeen years old but she looked like a mature espeon. She was exceptionally pretty and had a patch of white fur on her chest that was shaped like a star. Lyra had fallen down the steps in her excitement but that didn't dent her enthusiasm in the least.

She immediately began speaking once lifting herself from the floor, "Hey Iya, are you making the princess dress for the play tonight? I can't wait for this performance it will be so much fun, the theaters biggest performance ever! There's so much work to do, so much excitement in the air. It just pops you in the face with surprise and…"

Iya cut in while Lyra paused for a breath. "Yes Lyra this is the dress for tonight and I want you to keep that enthusiasm throughout the entire performance so don't go using it all up." Iya stated while looking down at the dress she was sewing. It was dark blue with sapphires sewn into the hem, a true beauty to behold. Lyra's enthusiasm began creeping into Iya. She shuttered with excitement, "It will be our best performance yet!" Iya ran up the steps and yelled back to Lyra, "Gather everyone! We need one finally rehearsal!" This time she was sure Lea would be at the play. The thought of her sitting in the balcony seat with her complete attention focused on Iya made her gitty with anticipation. It was imperative that she practiced so it would be perfect.

Chapter 4 of "Medic Guild Mania"

-"Need the rest of the guild members, I mean meet the rest."

Lea finally approached the main lobby where the other doctors had gathered. Luna, Sol, and Sara waited. While a new group stood close to them. They looked scared and a bit intimidated of Lea. As well they should be Lea thought; they are new to the medical world. They would be trained directly under her and Luna. Luna was far too nice and forgiving, but Lea wasn't. If you messed up your duties she would take extra time out of her busy day to beat you to death. Lea gave out the day's orders; it consisted mainly of checking patients, keeping them company, reapplying medications, and performing simple procedures. It always ended with the same line though.

"Don't kill anyone." It was imperative to Lea that she made sure every intern understood what they were getting into.

Sara, Hope, Luna, and Sol had all heard it before but it actually scared the interns. It had been Lea's intention to scare them as much as possible before their first procedures. Not because she was cruel, (Well maybe a bit) but because she needed to make sure they understood what mistakes caused in this job. Mistakes equal deaths. After these doctors were trained Lea could finally get some sleep, but she wanted to make sure they were trained well. She couldn't leave patient care in the hands of pokémon that will fuck up and kill someone. Lea finally went to her first patient's room. Aqoss the Vaporeon. Lea talked with him often, (Due to his frequent trips to the emergency room but that's another story for another time) so she actually looked forward to this. They often talked about life and sometimes played a game of chess if Aqoss felt up for it. She stepped into his room and put on her best happy face. (Not a very convincing happy face but she tried nonetheless)

"Good morning Aqoss. How are you feeling today?"

The vaporeon merely stared at her. It was obvious he didn't hear the sincerity in her voice and he called her on it.

"Is that the best you can do? Wow, you're so out of it today. How much sleep did you get last night?" Aqoss was smart so she had expected this reaction. What she hadn't expected was the amount of interest he showed in her life.

"Two hours I think." Aqoss shook his head to express his disappointment in her.

"My Arceus how are you still moving? Come on lass sit down and rest yer eyes a bit. (Aqoss had outgrown his pirate dialect long ago but it creeps into his voice occasionally) Unfortunately Lea put work first before her wellbeing again and refused. "Well if I can't get you to sleep, how about a chess match to calm you down?" Lea pondered it a bit.

"Sure, I have some time before the next patient." She reached under and got the board and pieces Aqoss kept under his bed. (They just kept it there because this had become Aqoss' second home) They set the pieces and immediately began. Aqoss had planned to take as much time with his moves as possible trying to bore her to sleep, and it had almost worked, but she had caught on quickly and forced him to stop. Aqoss was a decent player but he had never come close to beating Lea in a match before. That is until today.

"Checkmate lass." Lea's eyes widened in shock for a brief moment before lowering to their usual stagnant state. Lea sat there for a moment trying to figure out where she had made her mistake but quickly gave up trying. It just wasn't worth it.

"Good game Aqoss. Glad to see you've been practicing. Now I have some other patients to attend to so I'll be on my way…but I expect a rematch tonight ok?"

"Aye Lass I'd be happy to beat you a second time." He gave her a big hearty smile and she left to check her other patients. Aqoss knew she wouldn't be back tonight, she'd be far too tired for that. Hope floated in a minute later to reapply his medicine.

"Hello Aqoss, how are you? Aqoss, who was sick of being asked that question, merely flipped over to let Hope reach the wounds on his back. "I see. I must thank you for playing chess with Lea. I know she won't say anything but she truly enjoys those matches." Aqoss quivered as Hope started to apply a fresh coat of medication, (a glaze of mixed berries) no matter how many times he went through this that always stung.

"You don't have to thank me Hope. I enjoy those matches to, well except todays…"

"What do you mean? Have you gotten tired of Lea's company? Or are you simply tired of losing?" Aqoss almost flipped around he was so offended at the bluntness of Hopes questions.

"Of course not you floating moron. I would never tire of Lea's company she's a great doctor and we've spent many good times together. Nor am I so petty that I would be rid of her because I lost a game of chess one to many times. No, I'm worried about her. I know you've noticed it. She's slowed down, she's too tired and it's taking its toll on her. I actually beat in our match today." Hope couldn't display emotions very well but you could tell he was surprised.

"Really? (That one word comment seemed very drawn out by Hope) Maybe all that practice paid off? I'm sure you're just overthinking the situation. I'll be back later in the eve-"

"Yeah Hope I know the routine." Hope (slightly offended) but now finished with his work floated out of the room his medical box in tow. "Your practice has paid off they say. Sure, problem is I haven't practiced chess in my life. She's drowning and she refuses to get help. That girl is in trouble and she has no one close enough to rescue her."

Chapter 5 of "Medic Guild Mania"

-Pressing Matters

Lea emerged from the last of the patient rooms. She had finally visited everyone on today's patient list. She had just enough time to grab a quick lunch so she practically ran to the Rescue Guilds cafeteria. It was a short distance considering the two building were connected by an underground tunnel that went from the Medic Guilds main lobby to the Rescue Guilds atrium but Lea was very eager for lunch so she hustled there anyways. The line for lunch was short today (mainly because it was almost over) but Lea walked to the Rescue Guilds cafeteria workers (Sentrets) and waited for one of them to notice her presence. When no one did she decided to force her order by making her presence known.

"What are today's specials?" The cafeteria workers scrambled not expecting another order.

"Ummm it's a fruit salad made from pinap, cheri, and bluk berries. It comes with a fresh water, lemonade, or soda. With a desert side of imported casteliacone or lava cookies." Lea could feel her mouth start to water just by thinking about the decedent taste of the sweet fruits. Combined with a tasty lemonade and a cold ice cream it sounded like the best thing to happen to her in a while.

"That sounds great I'll order that with lemonade and the casteliacone."

"Sorry we are out. The stock hasn't been refilled in a while so we ran out of everything today really quick. We sent someone out to resupply but we won't be ready until tomorrow. I'm really sorry." Lea wasn't happy that the worker bothered to describe the food to her before quickly pulling away any hope she had of having some. It felt like a cruel prank against her. As Lea pondered snapping their necks she decided it wouldn't be fitting to kill them over food. (Even with her as hungry as she was) She was starving, tired, and still had work to do. She trudged slowly back to the medic guild where she went straight to her office and sat down. She decided that since she couldn't have lunch she would at least settle for a moments rest. Just as she placed her head on her desk, Luna walked in.

"Excuse me Lea. I hope I'm not interrupting but I thought we could discuss today's surgery." Lea just sat and kept her face planted firmly on her desk. She made no effort to lift herself up to have a conversation. Instead, she gave a loud moan but it was eclipsed by her stomachs own growl. "Doctor Lea? " Luna asked cautiously. "Are you ok?" Lea couldn't speak so instead she made a muffled grunt that sounded negative in nature. Her stomach growled again as to agree with her. "Did they run out of food at the guild again?" Again Lea merely grunted her confirmation. "I thought so. Here you can share a bit of mine. It's not much and it tastes awful but its filling." Luna held out half of a special protein bar. Lea knew these things and hated them. They were bitter and chalky but she almost cried at the gesture. She of course ate it and begrudgingly enjoyed every bitter bite of it.

"Umm thank you Luna." It felt like a small acknowledgement but Luna had been here long enough to know that a small thank you meant a lot when it came from Lea. She stored that thank you away to appreciate at another time and addressed Lea with her original topic of discussion.

"So about that surgery? I was hoping that I could take point." Lea groaned knowing she was back to work again.

Chapter 6 of "Medic Guild Mania"

-A double fault, step one!

Lea had decided during her lunch to let Luna take lead. It was only a minor surgery and Luna had done well enough to warrant letting her do this. It made Lea feel happy to know there was someone she could count on in the hospital besides herself. After her second round of patients something happened that ruined the happy feeling she had. The emergency siren rang. A pokémon had been taken into the hospital and was in critical condition. Lea had been heading to her office but she immediately turned around and ran to the emergency room.

When she arrived at the ER there were three or four pokémon (She assumed they were with the patient) surrounding the wounded pokémon. She made her way past them by pushing them forcefully out of her way. She ignored their cries as she examined the pokémon before her. It was a sneasel. He was flipped over to expose the large wound on his back. It was a wound caused by some kind of fire based attack. It had wounded him greatly and a large deal of time had passed since they had arrived here. The pokémon with him must have applied some rawst berries to the wound which was the proper way to treat burns but this was much worse than a small burn. He needed surgery if he was to ever live without pain again. As Lea examined the boy she and her team had already been taking him to the operating section of the hospital. Hope had finally joined them right as they reached the door.

"Doctor Lea should I send a message to the theater telling Iya that you won't be able to make it to the play?"

"The what?" Lea didn't even bother answering Hope. The door closed behind her and the operation began. Hope released a sigh (or he expressed the equivalent of a sigh emotion).

"Sorry but once again I can't…no…I regret to inform you…no…I'm tired of writing these notes for everyone." And with that Hope floated off to begin the paperwork and to write Iya another note.

The door stayed closed for a few hours. Team Hero (Fresh off their first mission in the forest. See "Team Hero a go-go baby!") waited patiently to get any news they could about Isaac. It had been an hour or two since the doctors took him into the operation room. It was now creeping closer and closer to midnight and they hadn't heard a single word about the boy. They kept waiting though. They had all refused to leave the hospital until they knew Isaac's condition. They waited, waited, and waited, until finally the doctors exited the room. Team Hero immediately ambushed them with a barrage of questions regarding Isaac. Lea didn't bother talking to them, which would use the last of her energy; instead she walked right past them and went to get another two hours of sleep in her office. Luna was there to explain to them what happened.

"Sorry about that you guys but she's under a lot of stress. Your sneasel friend is ok. He was in bad shape when you got him here but we managed to patch him up. There will be a great deal of scaring on his back but he should be pain free after a month or two of physical therapy. He's resting now but he hasn't regained consciousness so if you can please check on him daily?" The team nodded their understanding. "Also I'm sorry that came out that fast but I'm finally off my shift and want to get to bed. So if you'll please follow me to the exit."

Team Hero did as they were told but questioned her on the way to the exit. They were just happy to hear that Isaac would be ok but they wanted to know everything. Once they reached the exit they all went off into the night to finally end their long days. As team Hero walked to their homes in the living quarter's section of the village they noticed a large crowd heading out of the theater. They all knew that today was the big show and that it shouldn't have ended for another half-hour. They just assumed it was coincidence and continued on their path. For too tired to realize that something had happened during the show.

Chapter 7 of "Medic Guild Mania"

-A double fault, step two!

Finally the show had almost started. The entire Artist Guild had been buzzing all day in preparation for their big performance. They have done shows before, and they had done big shows before, but this was their grand opera: a classic story written by the guild and performed by their best cast and crew, the most expensive sets, and hopefully the first show that would bring in real income to the theater. They had worked the entire morning and afternoon getting ready and as dusk approached they were moments away before the curtain rose and the play began. The overwhelming noise of the crowd was deafening but they knew when the volbeats darkened the theater, and the curtain began to rise, that they would have complete silence. Iya was being rushed around and pushed about as she called out to her starting actors.

"Five minutes to curtain!" She was taking care of the pep talks, trying to calm down the actors by assuring them everything was going to go perfectly. They had been practicing for weeks but everyone was extremely nervous. Iya was ready though, she had her outfit on and she looked simply stunning in it. She tried to gather the first scene together and put them into their starting positions. They knew where to go so it was easy enough just herding them there. "One minute till curtain!" This was it, she thought, all that hard work pays off now. It will all be worth it when I see her sitting in her seat. When I see her smile, laugh, and cry with the rest of the crowd. It will have made everything worth it.

"And action." The curtain began to rise on her cue. The theater dimmed down immediately and everything went silent for a brief moment. The opening dialogue commenced but the only thing on Iya's mind that this moment was to catch a glimpse of Lea in her seat. As soon as she could spare a moment her eyes were immediately looking at the especially reserved seat. It was dark and the theater was full but she had memorized the seats location. The crowds of pokémon took over every seat, there wasn't a single empty seat. Except for one.

It can't be. She promised. I bugged, and pushed, and prodded until she promised to be here. How could she do this? Didn't she know how much this meant to me? Why can't she just take one day off, all I ask is for ONE. Iya (Lost in her internal rant) snapped back to reality when she realized she had missed her cue. She cursed under her breathe. In her rage she had forgotten her line. This was a disaster. The large audience now waited, all eyes were on her. She felt sick to her stomach, like she was going to throw up any second now. Eventually her crew fed her the line. Now back on track she continued the scene until as the opening act ended. (Luckily for Iya it was the shortest act in the play and she wasn't introduced back until the final act) Once Iya was backstage she was bombarded by the crew. They pestered her and scolded her for forgetting her opening lines. (She believed they had every right to) But eventually she retreated away to be alone with her thoughts.

"What the hell is wrong with me? I've never forgotten a line ever. Is it because I'm angry?" As Iya continued her internal debate another pokémon crept closer. It was Lyra and she wore a look of genuine concern.

"Oh my, Iya are you ok? You've never forgotten a line, like, ever. Are you sick? Do you need to go to the hospital?"

"NO" That was the last place she wanted to go. Still furious at Lyra for bringing up anything that reminded her of that stupid, selfish leafeon she realized that it was wrong to have yelled at her; whose only crime had been being concerned for her health. "I-I'm sorry Ly. It's just there was someone special that I wanted to be here and she didn't show up and it crushed my heart and I'm so sad and angry at her but I still like her and want to be with her and I DON'T KNOW HOW TO FEEL ANYMORE!" Iya broke down towards the end of her sentence and began sobbing.

"Hey, Iya. Please don't cry. I hate seeing my mentor cry. It's ok to not know how to feel. It's a part of life but if you can't go on we can stop the play or find someone else to play your parts." Lyra scooted closer and embraced her. Now Iya felt stupid. She was acting like a child and the only person to talk sense into her was still only a child.
"No, I'm fine. Thanks." She gave a sniff and hugged Lyra again. So it was decided that the show must go on. The following acts were fantastic and everything was going great as the final scene approached. Iya had tried to keep busy, desperately trying to keep "you know who" out of her mind but she kept creeping in. She would talk to some off the actors and help the prop works moves sets out of the way but every time she came close to forgetting about Lea, she remembered the empty seat. The weight of it held itself dangling above her, ready to drop and crush her at any moment.

Finally the scene had come. She was to be placed on a balcony in the air. (An attempt to simulate a tall tower that the prince must scale) Iya had gotten into place just fine and was waiting for the curtain to rise again. The curtain rose and the final act began. Everything progressed fine until, against her will, she glanced at the empty seat. The weight of it came crashing down on her. She couldn't focus again and missed her line. Now her stomach tossed and turned inside her and in fear she took a single step backwards. She slipped and began to fall from the balcony. She plummeted downward and landed on the ground. She heard a crack as her legs gave out from under her and the world immediately faded to black.

Chapter 8 of "Medic Guild Mania"

-A double fault, step three!

The hospital was dark but the night staff still sat drinking and talking to each other trying to pass the time. No one liked the night shift, nothing every really happened. Well at least nothing Lea wouldn't or couldn't handle by herself. But she insisted on having a team there at all hours of the day and they couldn't really complain. (They could complain but it was expected to shorten your lifespan considerable by doing so to Lea) So they sat in the dim light and talked. Sara and Sol with a single intern. (A spheal named Chilin)

"Pair of aces! Beat that." Sara's attitude at such a simple feat really annoyed Chilin but because he was an intern he couldn't speak out against her. But he could shut her up by beating her.

       "Sorry but full house."

"Why you little cheating bas-" Sara's insult was cut short as a group of pokémon burst through the hospital doors. They were carrying a glaceon whose leg was twisted in an unnatural position. Sara ran and sounded the alarm. They waited a couple of seconds for Lea to come running. She never did. She sounded it again and again they waited. No one came.

"Forget it Sara and help me get her to surgery!" Sara obeyed and they took her to the operation room.

"Sol where is Lea? She's usually here by now!" Sol didn't say anything. She instead began a sleep powder to sedate her (She was already unconscious but they wanted to be sure she didn't wake up in the middle of surgery).

"Forget it. You have to operate. You've done this surgery before so hurry up and do it now."

"B-but I've never done it without Lea watching me! And I've never done it on an actual living pokémon on training dummies."

"Forget about it. I don't know where she is and you need to hurry." Sara swallowed and started the operation. Lea slept in her office sound asleep. The alarm was still blaring but shut off a moment later. She had passed out from fatigue and there wasn't a force in the entire village to awaken her from this slumber.

Epilogue of "Medic Guild Mania"

-I'll make it up to you I promise.

"WHAT HAPPENED!!" When Lea finally awoke (fourteen hours later) she awoke to news that didn't particularly make her happy. She felt a thousand times better from that slumber but she wouldn't have traded it for Iya's safety.

"I said the Iya was admitted last night for a-"

"Don't repeat it!" Lea was already up into the air, fumbling with her scarf, and heading to the room Hope had put her in after the operation. Hope pondered chasing her but decided against it. This was the fastest she had run in a while and there's no way Hope's floating could catch up with her. Hope couldn't decide if her speed was from the sleep or fear of Iya's safety. Lea had almost reached the room; the entire length of the very short trip filled her mind with horrible images and fears. How could they let Sol operate on her? She had never done a surgery alone; what if she fucked up and paralyzed her?! She finally reached the room (In record time no less) and she threw the door open. Iya's was there to greet her but not in the way she expected.

"YOU BITCH!" Lea managed to duck before the glass full of water shattered right in the spot her head had been a second before. Broken pieces rained down on her now soaked head.

"Dear lord what did that butcher do to you?!" Lea was already examining her, ignoring the violent threats from Iya. "I am so sorry I let them fix you without my supervision. The one time you didn't fake it and I wasn't here" Iya looked ok and everything pointed to her being fine. (Besides her broken leg) "You look fine. I guess she didn't butcher your surgery that much after all."

"Get off of me you work-whore!" Iya shoved Lea off of her but she didn't really go too far. "How dare you show your face to me!" Lea looked confused. She thought Iya was mad because she let someone mess up such an easy surgery.

"W-what are you talking about?" Iya's face turned red with anger. Lea had never seen Iya angry and it was surprisingly adorable. Lea knew she was about to scream and braced herself for it. Surprisingly Iya didn't scream. She simply let out a sigh of frustration and rested her head on her chest.

"You promised me. You promised me you wouldn't miss my show no matter what! You liar!" It finally struck Lea. Crap she had promised her at least twelve times that she would be there. She looked at Iya and tried to explain to her what had happened.

"NO. I don't want to hear your excuses! You promised me and then you BROKE that promise. I was looking forward to seeing you in the crowd and when I saw that special chair empty AGAIN it crushed me! After all that asking, and pleading, and begging you still ignore me! Why can't I just get ONE date with you?" Iya quickly realized that she had said date when she meant to say day but it was too late. Iya had hoped Lea didn't catch that part but of course she had. (The one time she listened to Iya) "I-I'm sorry I d-didn't mean it like that…" Iya tried to save face but Lea didn't really seem bothered by it. Lea just sighed and shrugged her shoulders.

"If I had known you felt that way about me you could have just asked me on a date instead of constantly bugging me."  Now Lea was both embarrassed and terrified as she realized what she had just done.

"So you'll go on a date with me? How about tomorrow?"

"I don't know I have patients to look after and-" Iya began to turn red with rage again so Lea cut of her own sentence. "Ok…I get it. Can it please wait until your leg has healed though?"

"Deal. When my leg is better were going to Spinda's café for dinner."

"Ok…I promise. One date at Spinda's café. ONLY one though." Lea exited the room leaving a happy humming Iya alone to her own imagination. She liked Iya but never had time for a relationship, but this wasn't a relationship. It was only one date and Lea couldn't bring herself to crush Iya's dreams twice within such a short time, at least that's what she rationalized it as. She couldn't help but ponder what the consequences of her actions will be. She dismissed it though.

"What harm can one date be? She shivered as a cold chill ran down her spine."
